Veruschka Verushka…. We adore you.
Out of all of the photographs that I have looked at this one has raised the most questions. Taken by Richard Avedon in 1972 this model was obviously posing for him, but how did she even finagle herself into that sort of position? Besides the fact that the position she is in looks absolutely painful, how is she able to maintain her calm and serene facial expression? The white of her skin and her eyes is balanced out perfectly by the almost black dark of her hair and the shadow that is produced underneath her hands and is part of what makes this photograph visually appealing.
